Can your organization take decisions by making use of maps? Have you implemented (or plan to implement) an information system based on mapping capabilities?
If your answer is yes, then you need to know more about a GIS Strategy.
For any organisation to perform at its best, an Organisational Strategy is required.The value of a well constructed organisational strategy, is
something any organisation can only see after such a strategy has been implemented. The benefits are well documented, and any organisation
will testify that an organisational strategy (be it a GIS Strategy) has helped them to unlock value within their organisation.
When people in an organisation can share the same vision, work towards the same objectives and are led by a common mission, the potential
to unlock productivity are immense. Developing a GIS strategy further involves identifying clear roles and responsibilities to achieve
the clearly defined objectives, and buy-in is required from all levels within the organisation.
The recent growth in GIS technologies and applications, have prompted many organisations to consider how a spatial system are in fact
implemented.
The objective of the workshop
The objective of the three-day workshop will be to guide attendees through a systematic process in understanding:
• The information and knowledge environment organisations and business operate in;
• An introduction to Geographical Information Systems (GIS);
• An introduction to organisational and business strategy;
• The link between and organisational strategy and a GIS strategy;
• GIS- standards and frameworks; collaborative GIS;
• Success stories of where GIS Strategies have successfully been implemented.; and
• What are the major challenges that face an organisation when implementing a GIS Strategy.
Each day will also end with a discussion session, where attendees can share their own experience and comment on the topics covered that
particular day. The workshop will further culminate in a final day presentation by attendees on a personalised GIS strategy for their
own particular business or strategy.
Who should attend the workshop?
Delegates from organisations or businesses that already, or intend to, make use of GIS technologies in their organisation or business,
who are in the position to influence or drive the development and implementation of a GIS Strategy. The course is not aimed at a specific
GIS software application, and would present GIS Strategy as a process towards the successful implementation of Geographical Information
Systems.
