GIS Services

Global Image offers a variety of GIS services, core to our primary business. Below are just some of those GIS related services:

Linking Treasury Systems to a GIS

Global Image GIS Consultants offers products and services to enable Local Authorities (Municipalities) to access information from different departments. This information is typically based on the following questions:
  • Where is a specific property?
  • What is the land use and zoning of a property?
  • Who is the owner?
  • What is the property and land value?
  • What is the Balance of the Municipal Account on the property?

GIS maps are produced indicating trends based on the information compiled from the Treasury departments. These maps includes, among others, account payments, land use, zonings, treasury tariff zones and pre-paid metered sites. All systems are developed on central server, enabling the user to access data and GIS maps from an Intranet platform. Current Clients Include:

  • Stellenbosch Municipality (Western Cape Province)
  • Mossel Bay Municipality (Western Cape Province)
  • Phalaborwa Municipality (Mpumalanga Province)
  • Madibeng Municipality (North West Province)

Integrated Geographical Information Systems (IGIS)

Under the prevailing circumstances in South Africa, local government is under continuous pressure to give effect to government’s policies on reconstruction and development. On the other hand the need to survive under ever increasing pressures on the internal resource base of the municipality largely constrains the ability of local government to sustain itself over the medium- and long-term.

A low economic growth rate at provincial and national levels directly affects the prospects of local authorities and their ability to satisfy the needs of their residents. Increased financial pressure does not only requires good financial management, it stresses the importance of optimising the income derived from the municipalities resource base. The current practices at local authorities have lead to a situation where the different activities of council do not necessarily function and operate on an integrated basis.

The aim of this service is to enable Local Authorities to access information from different departments. These departments include the Town Planning-, Building Control-, Engineering and Treasury departments. All systems are developed on central server, enabling the user to access data and GIS maps from an Intranet platform

Town Planning Scheme GIS

Global Image developes customised Town Planning Geographical Systems, for the various municipalities in South Africa and Namibia. The Town Planning GIS application, specifically developed for the Town Planning Scheme, provides the officials within the Municipality access to Land Use, Zonings and other relevant information about the property. The application also enables the officials to generate custom zoning certificates, for properties. This not only helps officials to access information quickly, but also enables them to serve their ratepayers more effectively.
