Information Management Policies
The implications of the “PROMOTION OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION ACT, ACT 2
OF 2000” has far reaching implications for any Public- and Private
Organization. In essence, the Act provides a framework for us to exercise our constitutional
right and request information, and also provide the framework for organizations
to provide information. The Act also refers to “justifiable limitations, including….limitations
aimed at the reasonable protection of privacy, commercial confidentiality and effective,
efficient and good governance”. In order for public- and private bodies to comply
with the Act, it is of utmost importance that an “INFORMATION MANAGEMENT POLICY”,
be developed.
Aimed specifically at Local Authorities, the aim of such a Policy Document is to
assist officials in
- Identifying the information that can be requested
- Determining the type of information, based on the Information Act,
- Assisting the officials in determining the “affective, and efficient” process in
providing the information. As part of the service, interactive and user-friendly
programs are produced, to assist the officials in complying with the Information
Policy Guidelines.
GIS Strategies
The value of a well constructed organisational strategy, is something any organisation
can only see after such a strategy has been implemented. The benefits are well documented,
and any organisation will testify that an organisational strategy (be it a GIS Strategy) has
helped them to unlock value within their organisation. When people in an organisation can
share the same vision, work towards the same objectives and are led by a common mission, the
potential to unlock productivity are immense. Developing a strategy further involves identifying
clear roles and responsibilities to achieve the clearly defined objectives, and buy-in is required
from all levels within the organisation.
