Spatial Analysis Services

The advent of Geographic Information Systems has allowed decision makers in all spheres of business to model and test decisions before they are implemented, thereby reducing risk and cost. Although this service is mainly provided for private sector clients, assisting with feasibility analyses, many local authorities have come to realize the benefits of scenario analysis and modeling and as such, GLOBAL IMAGE has expanded its service to accommodate this sector.

Below is a brief list of just some of our available spatial analysis services:

Accessibility Analysis

The questions “How accessible is my location?” and “How far do my clients have to travel?” are best answered using a Geographic Information System. GLOBAL IMAGE has ownership of a Road Center Line dataset covering the entire country. By using advanced spatial modeling techniques it is possible to provide our clients with time-travel zones that informs the user as to the exact time it is going to take anybody to reach a specific location or conversely to indicate the optimum area that can be covered given any specific location. The success of this product has been proven by clients such as Sun International for the allocation of Casino licenses; Clinix Health Management for the optimum location of new hospitals and MTN for the best location of its new headquarters.

Demographic Profiles

The mapping of socio-economic indicators provides a whole new perspective on the determination of catchment areas of business and market segmentation. Use is made of census information and also custom data sets. GLOBAL IMAGE specializes in demographic projections and offers our clients the ability to cross tabulate between different datasets to arrive at detailed demographic profile of any area in the country. Using electronic demographic information in conjunction with the Accessibility Analysis described above, provides any client with the best possible information on where to locate a new business. Clients who have found this to be indispensable include Sun International, MTN, Clinix Health Management, Italtile, The Health Connection and more.

Planning Related Analysis

GLOBAL IMAGE has been involved in the analysis of information informing the Land Development Objectives Process for more than 60 Local Authorities in Gauteng Province, Northwest Province, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Lusaka City Council in Zambia. Social facilities and infrastructure are captured and analyzed based on guidelines prescribed by Government. This immediately indicate areas of under-/ over provision and assists in the compilation of Spatial Development Frameworks as well as providing the Local Authorities with an indication of where funds should be re-allocated on their annual budgets. Other applications of planning related analysis includes
  • Identification of land for housing (Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council)
  • Eastern Gauteng Services Council Strategic Land Assessment Model.
  • Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council Public Transportation Study.
  • Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council Demarcation.

Revenue Collection

GLOBAL IMAGE assist various Local Authorities and the new Utility Companies in linking their accounts systems with accurate base cadastral sets with the aim of bettering revenue collection. Remarkable results have been achieved both at a local authority level and parastatal level such as Goudveld/Sedibeng Water Board.

Monitoring Applications

The ability to spatially monitor urban development processes has proven to be indispensable for many local authorities. The resulting trends and tendencies from these monitoring applications provide valuable input in the formulation of policy pertaining to development pressures. Examples of this can be seen in
  • Informal Settlements and Housing and Land Applications for Greater Pretoria Metropolitan Council (1997 – 2000)
  • Monitoring of Informal Settlements and Levels of Service for Informal Settlements in Gauteng (Rand Water Board: 1997 – 2000)
  • Monitoring of Housing and Land Applications for the Eastern Gauteng Services Council
  • Monitoring of Subsidy Housing Projects for the Gauteng Provincial Housing Board.
