About Global Image
So what do we actually do? A number of years ago people like Columbus
and Diaz set out to discover (what they hoped to be) the new world. From more recent
reports it seems as if they only re-discovered the old world (Cradle of Mankind
and all that); but discover they did by using maps. These maps were often based
on assumptions and heresy, but it did get them there in the end. More
recently (in the last 30 years or so), clever people figured out ways to put maps
inside computers. Every year the maps become bigger and the computers smaller.
Computerised maps have revolutionised the way we all look at information. Everything
that we do, (most of us anyway) happens somewhere on the surface of the earth. Most
of the decisions we make, manifest itself spatially - that is somewhere on the surface
of the earth. A great deal of information that we use on a day-to-day basis has
a spatial connotation. At Global Image we look at things from a spatial perspective.
We take normal sets of data such as population or income but we focus on “where”
this information is supposed to happen. We use clever software of course, but the
most important thing to remember is that we look at information based on where it
happens.
Global Image makes use of a tool referred to as a Geographic Information System

Global Image came into being as a merger between the GIS section of a large Town
& Regional Planning Company (Urban Dynamics) and an established GIS company
Plandata. Although only 7 years old, Global Image can draw on collective experience
of more than 40 years in the development – GIS – IT field. |
